This I believe

Releasing the human ego

The ego dilutes the perception of the self. It is a manipulation based and fear based entity that causes an individual to not see the true nature of themselves. Those with egotistical personalities are often unaware of the self and present, while thinking compulsively in order to assure future existence. Most others and I have fallen victim to the ego and the aforementioned personality traits. It’s hard for anybody to say that they never have. It wasn’t until a couple years ago, when I was in my freshmen year at UNCG that I first became aware of what the human ego truly was and how negative an impact it has on an individual and humanity as a whole. I had learned such things through my friends that I went to school and hung out with. They frequently talked about influential writers and speakers that spoke on such subjects of releasing the ego and reclaiming your mind. These people included Terrence Mckenna, Timothy Leary, and Alan Watts, amongst many others who have inspired people with these kind of messages. Through my own research and practice on understanding what the ego was and how to go about releasing it, I noticed a major change in how I viewed myself and life around me. My consciousness and awareness had expanded to levels that had truly helped me see things for how they truly were. Through my practice of stripping my ego came daily meditation, reading, and creativity. The love for myself and my fellow man then came naturally. This was one of the most important and interesting points in my life, and to this day try to express the message of what it means to release the ego and the positive affects it has had on me and can have on others.

I believe it is important to have awareness of what the ego is. I also believe it is important to understand that having a false ego subjects limitations on an individual, holding one back from true freedom. I believe this awareness and understanding is the best start toward the practice of releasing the ego. This I believe is the key to a life of happiness, unlimited consciousness, and freedom. Imagine what would result in the releasing of the ego on a worldwide level? A world without an ego would be “Heaven on Earth.” We as humans would not fight with each other or have hate for one another. This would lead to more time and effort toward advancing our technology and scientific understanding. This would result in humanity achieving its greatest feats, such as colonizing space and creating medicine that would cure the diseases that we search for today. Along with these advancements, the releasing of the ego would create a unity amongst humanity that would lead into a global consciousness through spirituality without the dogma and fear based manipulation that is brought about by the human ego. This falsified persona effects every aspect of life, including the products you consume, the way you act, and how limited your awareness can be. The answer to all the problems with this stigma of the ego is not if we can do it, it is if you are willing to do it, because the possibility is there waiting for us to wake up and change humanity. However, this might be too tall of an order for a single individual to take on by themselves. That is ok, because you as a human are in control of your own destiny. Do what you can to take part in this spiritual awakening. Take it from me and many others out there who express that the true path to freedom and happiness starts with the releasing of the human ego. This I believe to be true.

Reflective Commentary

Finalized TIB Draft- I was much more happy with my finalized draft than I was with my original draft and especially my first revised draft. What I did during my revision of the revised draft that would turn into my finalized copy was fix the grammatical errors and content errors that Mrs. Andrews adrdressed for me when she gave the class feedback. I followed the basic revisions with a completley re-written personal story and took out the hostile sounding voice from the prior draft then included a more positive and optimistic voice into my finalized draft. That made the biggest difference between drafts and materialized into a much different paper in a very positive way. After re-writing the personal story I then reorganized and restructured certain sentences in my second passage. By restrucuring my second passage, I was able to have the second passage flow better with the first passage, which resulted in a paper that was trying to send a positive message like the paper intailed. Overall, I feel I rebounded very well with my finalized copy of my TIB essay.
